Why do cyclists shave their legs?
Posted: Sunday, April 17, 2005 4:48 AM (EST)

Elite Level Cyclists shave their legs to assist with massage during long stage races.

  • Novice Speaks: “I have never had a massage after a race yet. This can't be the reason.“

Shaved legs are easier to treat if injured after crashing.

  • Novice Speaks: “My legs still feel the same after a crash whether they are shaved or not. This can't be the reason.“

It is easier to apply warm up oils.

  • Novice Speaks: “Well I suppose this could be the reason. It is easier to apply warm up oils when shaven.“

Its a trade mark of a serious cyclist.

  • Novice Speaks: “Am I a serious cyclist when I only train 150k's a week?“

To look good because if you feel you are sleek and fast you'll go fast.

  • Novice Speaks: “Well this could be the reason. I do go faster with shaven legs, I look good and the girls can't keep there hands off me (I wish)“
