Club Training Rides
Every Sunday at 8am up to 30 cyclists meet at the Clock Tower to go for a nice quite ride around Taranaki for about 60 to 70 k's. The Organiser (A local Bike Shop Owner) sometimes called Camp Mother by some of the participants ensures that no one is dropped and the bunch stays together. When the youngins get to the front and start picking the pace up the call goes out to ease up. One hill that is frequently climbed brings out the hill climber in us all and we see who can be the first to the top, always knowing that we will get a bit of a rest at the top while waiting for the bunch to reform.
The average speed of this ride is usually in the 24-26km/hr range. After this we all leisurely ride back to a cafe for that oh so inviting coffee and a quick chat. After the coffee we struggle home to face the wife and kid's thinking of the next excuse that will be used to allow us to go for that Sunday ride with the coffee club again.
Also, Every Sunday at 7:30am up to 30 cyclists meet at the Clock Tower to go for a more serious training ride. These can be anywhere from 70km to 130km, depending on the upcoming events. Pace is usually in the 28-30km/hr range in this bunch.
We encourage new riders to partake in these bunch training rides, where riders are more than willing to pass on their knowledge and tips on bunch training/racing/riding (it is all common sense really).
