100th Year, 100 Mile Round the Mountain Classic

Peters Wins Mini Tour
Richard Peters proved the best all round rider to win the Cycle Inn sponsored mini tour on Sunday. 39 riders competed in near perfect conditions in a 4 stage Cycling New Plymouth mini tour. Stage one was a 25km handicapped race over a hilly circuit. Peter Cox won, with Alan Reid second. Stage 2 was a 7km time trail with Jordon Murray proving too strong for World Campion bound Nathan Smith. Stage three was a graded 30 km race including 2 x hill climbs up Davies Road. Stephen Hills proved too strong to ride away from his group and ride solo to the finish to win. Stage 4 was a mass start with Richard Peters sprinting to win over Jordon Murray and Tony Brownring. Overall Richard Peters proved to be the strongest, wining from Nicola Cox and Steven Hills.

Cragg Wins Memorial Race
A field of 40 riders took to the challenging course on Saturday in the Blindz Direct sponsored Dawn Peters Memorial Race. Heading out from New Plymouth to Pungarehu and return Steve Cragg’s group staring with a handicapped at 21 mins, worked well on the way out to Pungarehu into a southerly through bad weather and challenging conditions. The group processed through the field and hit the front bunch at Oakura. Steve Cragg followed by Wayne Silby after 10 year retirement and Aaron Wood a local triathlete. Steve Cragg sprinted strongly to finish ahead of Selby and Wood in a time of 2hr14min23sec. Crag had targeted this race as a great build up for the upcoming 100th Mountain Race on the 1st October. Fastest time went to Tony Brownring and 2nd was Barry Marnoch.

Weston Wins Sanger Cup
Margie Weston proved too strong to stay ahead of the bunch to win cycling New Plymouths Janko Computers sponsored Sanger Cup. Weston rode away from Lochie Mckenzie who finished second on the Tapuae hill. Nicola Cox won a sprint finish against CJ Peters and Mike Parker to finish 3rd. Fastest time wet to Jordan Murray with Tony Brownrigg 2nd.

Tocklers Winning Return
Micheal Tockler rode strongley to win a challaging race over 2 laps of the national circuit in Inglewood. Pure Blacks Tockler returned from season ending injury to take a step towards joining his Pure Black team racing in the USA. Jordan Murray held on for second with front marker Keith Goodwin holding out Brohn Tockler, Brett Murray and Vaughn Smith for 3rd. This weeks race is starting in New Plymouth racing to Okato via the Greenwood road loop.

Tonchi Pepperill held off a fast finishing Vaughn Smith and Jordan Murray to win Cycling NP 60km race in Okato on Saturday. Pepperill and Smith were started on 2nd break , breaking away from there group at the top of the final climb , with Murray breaking away from follow scratch rider Darry Stevens to catch Smith and Pepperill. They then fought it out over the last 5km with Pepperill wining the sprint and Murray finishing second. CJ Peters and Tara Atherton rode hard to hold off the fast finishing bunch to claim 3rd and 4th. Jordan Murray finished with the fastest time.
